Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 11, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the Vexmo mobile application (“Vexmo”, “the app”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information when you use it. Vexmo is a car expense, fuel, and reminder tracking application.
By using Vexmo, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Summary
Vexmo is a local-first application. All of the data you enter — your cars, expenses, fuel entries, reminders, receipt photos, and settings — is stored only on your device. We do not operate a backend server, we do not collect analytics, and we do not sell or share your data with advertisers or any third party.
The only time your data leaves your device is if you choose to enable the optional Google Drive backup feature, in which case a copy of your data is stored in your own private Google Drive space under your control.
2. Information We Handle
The information Vexmo handles falls into the following categories.
2.1 Data you create in the app (stored locally)
Vexmo stores the following information locally on your device using on-device storage (SQLite and local key–value storage):
- Vehicle information — the cars you add (e.g. name, make/model, and related details you choose to enter).
- Expenses and fuel entries — amounts, categories, dates, odometer readings, fuel volume and price, gas station, and notes.
- Reminders — reminder titles, dates, and odometer triggers.
- Receipt photos — images you capture with your camera or select from your photo library. These are stored as files on your device.
- App settings — currency, distance and fuel units, theme preference, and language.
- This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable Google Drive backup (see Section 3).
2.2 Google account information (only if you sign in)
Signing in with Google is optional and is used solely to enable Google Drive backup. If you choose to sign in, the app accesses the following from your Google account:
- Your email address
- Your display name
- Your profile photo
2.3 Device permissions
Vexmo requests the following device permissions:
- Camera — to capture receipt photos. Only used when you choose to add a photo.
- Photos / storage — to select existing receipt images and to export data (e.g. CSV files).
- Notifications — to deliver local reminder notifications on your device.
- Vibration — for haptic feedback.
- All permissions are used strictly for the features described above. Photos and files are never uploaded to us.
3. Optional Google Drive Backup
Vexmo offers an optional feature that lets you back up and restore your data using your own Google Drive.
- This feature is only active if you explicitly sign in with Google and enable backup.
- Backups are stored in a private, hidden application data folder in your own Google Drive (appDataFolder, scope drive.appdata). This folder does not appear in your normal Google Drive view and is accessible only to the Vexmo app on your account.
- The backup contains the app data you created (vehicles, expenses, reminders, and related information) so it can be restored on your device.
- We do not have access to your Google Drive or your backup file. The backup lives entirely within your own Google account.
- Vexmo only requests the minimum Google Drive scope (drive.appdata) needed to store and read its own backup file. It cannot access any other files in your Google Drive.
4. How We Use Information
We use the information described above only to:
- Provide the core functionality of the app (tracking cars, expenses, fuel, and reminders).
- Display your receipt images and analytics within the app.
- Deliver local reminder notifications.
- Enable optional backup and restore via your own Google Drive.
- We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or analytics.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties. Because Vexmo has no backend server, we do not receive or store your data on our systems.
The only external service involved is Google (for optional sign-in and Drive backup), and only when you choose to use that feature. In that case, data is exchanged directly between your device and your own Google account. Your use of Google Drive is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).
6. Data Retention and Deletion
- Data stored locally on your device remains until you delete it within the app or uninstall the app. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data, including receipt photos managed by the app.
- If you used Google Drive backup, your backup remains in your Google Drive until you delete it. You can remove it via your Google Account’s “Apps connected to your account” / third-party app data settings, or by deleting the app’s data from Drive.
7. Data Security
Your data is stored on your device and protected by your device’s own security mechanisms (such as your screen lock and OS-level app sandboxing). Backups transmitted to Google Drive are sent over encrypted HTTPS connections. Please keep your device and Google account secured.
No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children’s Privacy
Vexmo is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. International Users
Vexmo stores data locally on your device. If you enable Google Drive backup, your data is handled by Google in accordance with Google’s own policies and infrastructure, which may involve processing in other countries.
10. Your Rights
Because your data is stored locally and under your control, you can access, edit, export (via CSV), or delete your data at any time directly within the app. Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g. under the GDPR), you may have additional rights regarding your personal data. Since we do not hold your data on our servers, such requests are generally fulfilled directly on your device.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this document. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
